Emergency Services

Let’s face it. Most kids get hurt over the weekend or after the dentist’s office has closed. It’s one of the natural laws of the universe. Luckily, Anderson Pediatric Dentistry is always available. With a pediatric dentist always on-call, you can rely on us to help you through an often-frightening experience.

When a tooth has been injured, there are a few steps you can take to help save your child’s tooth.

If your child has knocked his or her permanent tooth out, you can increase the chances that the tooth can be saved if you pick it up without touching the root, gently clean it off with water, and put it back in its socket facing the correct way. Hold it in place with gentle pressure as you rush to the dental office or emergency room. If you can't replant the tooth immediately, tuck it between your child’s cheek and gum, or carry it in a glass of cold milk.

DO NOT REIMPLANT A BABY TOOTH IF IT IS KNOCKED OUT.  THIS CAN AFFECT THE HEALTH OF THE PERMANENT TOOTH THAT HAS NOT YET ERUPTED!

If a tooth is chipped, try to find any pieces that have come off, as sometimes it’s possible to reattach them. Make an appointment for an office visit as soon as possible and bring the pieces with you.

Anytime there is a severe injury, loss of consciousness or uncontrollable bleeding, seek help immediately from the Emergency Room.  For less traumatic injuries, call our office to schedule a time to be seen as soon as possible. Often, a quick phone conversation can help us to determine the next step.
